General Description
Bone Densitometry is used in the diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis, a disease that causes weak and brittle bones that are more likely to break. Bone Densitometry measures bone loss and may provide an early warning for the risk of developing osteoporosis.
What to Expect
During the exam, you will lie on a padded table with an imaging device positioned above you. The exam will last about 15 minutes. Your doctor will receive a written report approximately 48 hours after the scan.
- Continue to take any medications you normally would, unless your physician has instructed otherwise.
- There are no dietary restrictions.
- To avoid having to change into a gown, please wear an outfit that does not have any straps, zippers or buttons.
- When you schedule your appointment, please inform the receptionist of any other test(s) you have scheduled for that day.
- Please arrive 10 minutes before your appointment and bring the requisition provided by your physician.
