The Diagnostic Imaging Department at University Suburban Health Center has switched from conventional film to digital imaging and the benefits are enormous. If you've ever used a digital camera or know how easily it can enhance and enlarge an image, then you understand the benefits of digital technology. From x-rays to advanced procedures such as MRI, CT or mammography, digital imaging means convenience and quality. Unlike conventional x-rays, digital images are automatically recorded on a computer and viewed on a monitor - just like your own digital photos. Images can not only be enhanced, which can result in improved diagnosis, but also are processed in a fraction of the time since there is no film to develop. Digital imaging can minimize the need for callbacks and retakes because the technologist can tell immediately if more images are needed.
Your doctor can view your images on a desktop personal computer, often quickly after the examination was performed. Images are no longer held in a single location and you can have all your x-rays loaded on a CD to take to another physician, if you wish.
